A course of bridge lessons will be offered in an eight-week session on
Thursdays beginning October 3, 2019 and running through November 21, 2019. Classes will meet in the Ocotillo room in the Beardsley
Recreation Center beginning promptly at 9:00 a.m. and ending promptly at 11:00 a.m. with a 10-minute break in the middle. Students are
encouraged to arrive 10 minutes early to be prepared to start class at 9:00.
Cost of Course: The tuition for the course is $50 payable at sign-up. Checks should be made payable to Art Carlson.
Course Textbooks: The course textbook is 2/1 Game Force, authored by Audrey Grant and Eric Rodwell is required.
Students not having a copy of the textbook may purchase one on the first day of class at a price estimated to be about $20 including tax and shipping.

Course Objective: Students completing this course will be comfortable playing duplicate bridge with a partner using the 2/1 Game Force extension to the Standard American
Course Pre-requisites: Students should have experience playing bridge using the Standard American bidding system. At a minimum,
students should have experience with non-competitive opening bids of 1NT and one of a suit as well as standard responses to opening bids
in the absence of interference.
Class Format: The class will be taught using Cards-on-the-Table whereby students learn by doing rather than by
listening to lectures. Generally, bidding concepts are introduced through practice on carefully-constructed bridge hands.
Course Teacher: The course will be conducted by Art and Elaine Carlson, who are certified by the American Contract Bridge
League (ACBL) and by Audrey Grant’s Better Bridge organization. Art is further certified as an ACBL Best Practices bridge teacher.
